Emergency Services
We get it- emergencies can happen at the most inconvenient times! We offer emergency services throughout Washington, Allegheny, and Greene County.
Our most frequent emergencies usually are related to colic or lacerations. In racehorses, other problems such as extreme lameness from fractures, "tying up", or choking are common scenarios we see. -
Coggins & Vaccines
Coggins (testing for Equine Infectious Anemia) are available as standard (2-3 business days) or rushed (1-2 business days).
We offer:
6-Way Vaccine- Provides comprehensive protection against EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis), WEE (Western Equine Encephalitis), Tetanus, Herpesvirus & West Nile.Flu-Rhino Vaccine- Provides protection against EHV-1 (Equine Herpes) and influenza. These are recommended for horses in competition or frequent travelling.
Rabies Vaccine- An extremely effective vaccine against rabies, a transmissible and fatal disease. Rabies is required by law for dogs and cats, and is a requirement by some states in order to race. Pennsylvania has one of the highest rates of confirmed rabies in the United States!
Tetanus Vaccine- available as a booster or also included in the 6 Way vaccine

Lameness Evaluations
Traditionally, lameness is defined as any alteration of the horse's gait. It is painful for the horse and can result in poor performance, attitude changes. Diagnosing the source of the lameness is essential to proper treatment or rehabilitation!
Our veterinarians have specific protocols for performing examinations. When applicable, both physical exam and watching the horse in motion over a variety of surfaces can help us get your athlete back to peak performance.

Lameness Locator
The Lameness Locator is a system that measures the movement of a horse’s head and pelvis using wireless sensors to detect any imbalances that may suggest lameness in one or more of their legs. The program provides an analysis indicating whether the horse is lame, the severity of the lameness, the involved limb(s), and the part of the motion cycle where peak pain occurs.
We were fortunate to help develop a protocol alongside Equinosis for the Lameness Locator's use in the STB racehorse. Using a special hip piece, we are able to analyze lameness over time (over 300+ strides) as well as the standard 25-30 strides. -
X-ray Services
X-rays or radiographs are commonly used in horses for detecting both bone- and soft tissue-related diseases. They can help diagnose issues such as imbalances, arthritis, laminitis, fractures and more by distinguishing changes in bone strength, growth, and positions of surrounding tissues. Our xray unit provides stall-side high quality pictures to ensure proper diagnosis for your horse.
-
Ultrasound Services
Ultrasonic imaging is commonly used to obtain images of orthopedic soft tissue injuries in horses, such as tendons and ligaments, and depending on the size of the probe can evaluate deeper structures such as the lungs or abscesses. Ultrasound can reveal unique details about soft tissue that X-rays cannot evaluate.

Endoscopy Services and Respiratory Therapies
Endoscopy: This procedure allows our veterinarians to visually examine the internal structures of a horse’s respiratory system at rest. We are able to examine the presence or absence of hemorrhage, mucous, or feed material as well as the mechanics of the pharynx.
We also have the capability to evaluate the lower lung fields by performing specialized diagnostic tests such as trans-tracheal washes (TTWs) or bronchoalveolar lavages (BALs).

Dynamic Scope
A dynamic scope is a diagnostic tool used for the upper airway respiratory system in horses during exercising. Usually this modality is used in combination with resting endoscopy to look at mechanical changes in the throat and airways when at maximal exercise. This device closely fits over the bridle and is well-tolerated by horses, whether racehorses or pleasure horses.
This service requires an appointment to be made in advance.
-
Gastroscopy
Gastroscopy is a procedure used to view the inside of a horse’s stomach using a scope with a camera that is passed into the stomach via the nose. Ulcers can affect both the glandular and the non-glandular portions of the stomach, and certain commonly-used medications only treat one type of ulcer. Gastroscopy is the only way to accurately diagnose type and location of stomach ulcers in horses.
This procedure requires advance notice as the horse needs to fast (refrain from eating food) for at least 8 hours prior to being scoped.

Platelet-rich plasma Injections
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy used to treat horses with multiple types of injuries using their own blood. Please contact us for more information about this steroid-free alternative to joint treatments.
